Colac Otway Shire Council has welcomed the State Government's funding announcement of $35,625 toward Community Events Recovery Support.

Shire Mayor Kate Hanson said the funding announcement made by Labor Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney would provide assistance toward establishing COVID safe events and working toward recovery.

"This State Government funding will allow Colac Otway Shire Council to deliver workshops to support and prepare our local community event organisers to provide them with the skills and knowledge to assist them to deliver events for the region in a COVID-safe manner.

"Local events and festivals are well-loved and supported by locals and attract many visitors to the area, but they also take a lot of volunteer time and effort to put together.

"COVID-19 regulations add another layer of complexity for community groups to get their head around, so if Council can assist with that, and make processes easier to manage, we're providing a valuable service to our community.

"More events will attract more visitors back to the region, which is vital as we aim to support our region to recover from the pandemic now and provide opportunity for future growth.

"Remaining COVID-19 safe, complying with regulations and encouraging people who are eligible to get vaccinated are all important steps to re-establishing our much-loved local events which bring our community together."
