Commonwealth Games traffic officers arrive on the Gold Coast

As part of Operation Sentinel, over 300 traffic officers have now arrived on the Gold Coast, Queensland Police say.

The officers will support the policing response to the Commonwealth Games and assist in keeping the road networks open and safe for athletes, games officials and members of the public.

This will include a total of 320 traffic officers, over 100 of which are on motorbikes that will be patrolling all over the coast and on the M1.

Commonwealth Games Operational Commander Assistant Commissioner Peter Crawford said that commuters can expect to see a lot of police out on the road over games time.

‘The deployment of our traffic officers will focus on the efficiency of the road networks and keeping congestion to a minimum,’ he said.

‘Our Road Policing Command officers are bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge delivering effective traffic management and, working with our partner agencies, we will be working very hard to ensure that everyone gets to where they need to go on time."
