Commonwealth Government Funding to support Women in Building Sector

Sarah Courtney,Minister for Building and Construction

International Women's Day is a day where we celebrate women and their contribution to the community, and it is fantastic to see that women in the building and construction sector are receiving recognition and support.

I welcome the commitment made today by my Federal counterpart, the Hon Kelly O'Dwyer MP, Minister for Jobs and Industrial Relations, for supporting the mentoring and participation of women in the building industry.

Tasmania's building and construction sector is booming with a record number of jobs, however women are under-represented.

There are great opportunities for women to enter trades and occupations in the sector across a wide range of disciplines including engineering, design, manufacturing of building products, and construction.

It is pleasing to see the industry's peak bodies such as Master Builders Australia and the Housing Industry of Australia providing support for more young Tasmanian women to enter the industry by helping implement this program.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to building Tasmania's future - and to make sure we have the skills and workforce that is needed, we need to tap into the potential of women who can contribute so much to this important industry.
