The delivery of the first new Brisbane CBD train station in more than 120 years is on track with the proposed development scheme for the Albert Street Cross River Rail Priority Development Area (PDA) now out for community comment and feedback.
Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick encouraged locals to review the proposed development scheme and make a submission."
"The proposed scheme provides a planning framework for the site that will inform the transformation of the southern end of Brisbane's CBD," Mr Dick said.
"It outlines intended land uses, development criteria and the infrastructure envisaged for the PDA, and the feedback we gain through this process will ensure the PDA meets public expectation."
Minister for Innovation and Tourism Industry Development Kate Jones said by 2036 up to 70,000 people were expected to use the Albert Street Cross River Rail Station each week day.
"Development within the 4000-square-metre PDA will see a new 220-metre-long underground station built approximately 31 metres below the street – the deepest station on the network," Ms Jones said.
"The new station will significantly improve connectivity in and around our city, and will create greater opportunities for employment, business, education and entertainment.
"Additionally, the over-station development will form part of the Brisbane City Council's green spine initiative.
"This will connect QUT's Gardens Point campus, the City Botanic Gardens, the Queen's Wharf project, Queen Street Mall and Roma Street Parklands."
Cross River Rail Delivery Authority Chief Executive Graeme Newton said public consultation on the proposed development scheme is a key component in sourcing community buy-in at this stage of the process.
"The scheme will guide the future design and development of the two city blocks within the PDA to deliver a high-quality landmark destination with seamless public access to the underground station," Mr Newton said.
"Publicly notifying the proposed scheme provides the community with an opportunity to have their say about future plans for the PDA."
