Community consulted on re-naming of Innes Park

Townsville City Council has today started consulting with the Deeragun community on a proposal to rename Innes Park in honour of the late Ms Rosemary Russo.

Acting Mayor Les Walker said Ms Russo, who passed away in 2016, was a resident of the area surrounding Innes Park for more than 20 years.

"Late last year, Council received a request from members of the Deeragun community to rename Innes Park after the late Ms Russo, who passed away in tragic circumstances," Mr Walker said.

"Ms Russo ran a children's day care service from her home and regularly took the children she cared for to play in Innes Park. She was also a member of the Castle Hill Lions Club and participated in many community projects and activities.

"In line with its policy on naming parks, Council is now undertaking community consultation to determine local residents' support for the proposal."

Cr Walker said interested residents could provide feedback on the proposal using Have Your Say Townsville.

Public consultation will close on 11 March.
