The Surf Coast Shire Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee is looking for community members to represent our coastal and hinterland communities.
The Committee is made up of representatives from emergency response and service agencies, Surf Coast Shire Council, State Government departments, utility providers and relief and recovery agencies. The Committee meets quarterly and work together to to plan and prepare for emergencies in our community.
We are seeking to appoint two positions, one to represent the coastal communities and one for the hinterland areas of the shire.
Ideal candidates will:
- Have strong community links with expertise or interest in areas such as conservation, land management, farming, indigenous and cultural heritage, tourism and business, aged and disability, youth, arts and culture, or sport.
- Be passionate about their community and want to be involved in the development and implementation of strategies to ensure community safety during emergency events.
- Have an interest in emergency planning and be able to bring a range of perspectives to the multi-agency Committee.
- Be prepared to serve a three year term and attend a minimum of two meetings each year.
With bushfires, floods and storms occurring with devastating effects across Victoria, there is an expanding wealth of experience in emergencies in our communities. This valuable role will have an opportunity to share knowledge and ideas that will ultimately help protect us.
