Community To Honour Fathers At Council Event

Townsville City Council is inviting the Townsville community to come together for the Father's Day Memorial this Saturday, from 8:30am to 10am at Belgian Gardens Cemetery.

Acting Mayor and divisional councillor Ann-Maree Greaney, said the annual event offers a meaningful opportunity to reflect and connect ahead of Father's Day.

"Creating a compassionate and supportive community is essential in helping people find comfort and strength as they navigate grief," Cr Greaney said.

"Townsville is a supportive community and Council is dedicated to fostering connection and belonging through events like the Father's Day Memorial, where we can come together to support one another and honour those we've lost."

The ceremony will feature heartfelt reflections from Amanda Medill and music by Alex Salvadore. Attendees are also encouraged to share a poem if they wish. A light breakfast will be provided and attendees will receive a free native plant to take home.

"I invite anyone who may be carrying the pain of loss, whether their loved-one's rest in our cemetery or elsewhere, to join us for this special gathering on Saturday," Cr Greaney said.
