The Georges River community showed strong support for the local environment at the 36th Clean Up Australia Day.
Volunteers took part in clean‑ups at 13 locations on Sunday 1 March, with many community groups continuing their efforts throughout March. This brought the total number of active clean‑up sites to 27 across the local area.
Georges River Council supported volunteers organising the removal of more than 1.5 tonnes of rubbish from parks, streets, reserves, and creeks.

Items collected across the clean-up sites included plastic drink bottles, plastic bags, soft plastics, single‑use food packaging, face masks, disposable coffee cups, cigarette butts, and polystyrene.
Weird and wacky items included a washed‑up esky still containing unopened drinks, a broken buoy, a crab pot, tyres, a rusted barbecue, bicycles, scooters, shopping trolleys and more.
Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, "Our community continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to keeping Georges River beautiful.
