Compliance is key

Police from across the Logan District have increased their presence in shopping centres carrying out on the spot COVID compliance checks.

Assistant District Officer Acting Superintendent Peter Miles said yesterday's enforcement activities were about educating people on their requirement to check -in and advise business managers of their responsibilities.

Patrols were conducted at shopping centres at Browns Plains, Logan, Beenleigh and Marsden..

"These checks yesterday have identified people are still not checking in when they attend businesses.

"There is a responsibility placed on a person who owns, controls or operates a restricted business, activity or undertaking to make all reasonable efforts to electronically collect contact information about all guests, patrons and staff at the time of entry.

"Also, any person who enters a premises for a restricted business, activity or undertaking at the time of entry must provide the contact information to the operator of the business.

"The blitz has shown most people are comfortable wearing a mask which is excellent. We just need people to ensure they are checking -in at venues every time they go somewhere. It really does make a big difference for our Qld Health colleagues who can quickly identify those people who may have been exposed to a COVID positive person through contact tracing.

"Logan police will continue to carry out COVID Compliance checks with particular attention shown to those businesses where non-compliance was evident.

"My message is simple. Save yourself a $1378 bill and check-in," said Acting Superintendent Miles.
