Condition Surveys On Local Roads And Footpaths

Council has engaged Infrastructure Management Group (IMG) to complete condition surveys across the Shire's road and footpath network.

The surveys, which will be undertaken from early October to the end of November, will assess around 765 kilometres of sealed roads and 435 kilometres of footpaths, providing detailed video imaging and condition data to help Council plan future maintenance and renewal programs.

IMG's inspection vehicles will be clearly marked and equipped with cameras and sensors to capture surface condition information.

For roads, this includes transporter-style vehicles operating at normal traffic speeds, while footpath inspections will be carried out using quad-bike-style units travelling at a walking pace.

All cameras are directed only at the road or footpath surface and immediate surrounds. No images of homes, businesses, or private property are recorded.

The data collected will help Council better manage these important community assets, supporting safer and more efficient travel, improved mobility, and targeted maintenance programs where they're most needed.

Residents may notice the vehicles operating around their neighbourhoods while the surveys are underway. Council thanks the community for their cooperation during these important works.

In addition to these audits, Council officers are on the roads every day working to improve the conditions of local roads as part of the $18.53 million allocated to maintaining and improving the road network in the 2025/26 budget.

Community members are encouraged to explore the Whose Road Is It? tool, an interactive map available on Council's website, which helps residents identify the responsible authority for roads within the Shire.

This tool offers a user-friendly interface to determine whether a road falls under the authority of Council, the Department of Transport, the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, or other government entities.

For urgent issues on Council-managed roads, residents can contact 5734 6200. Non-urgent issues can be reported via Council's online Report It tool.

Additionally, Council welcomes community input on future projects through the suggest a project page.
