Construction continues at Clyde Road

Vic Department of Transport

Works have been ramping up to remove the dangerous and congested level crossing at Clyde Road, Berwick by building a new road underpass below the Pakenham line.

We worked around the clock from Tuesday 26 October to Friday 29 October as we continued to prepare the foundations for the new road underpass and rail bridge.

Other key construction activity to occur during this rail occupation included installing underground services and drainage.

Later this month, we will be back in full swing with works within the rail corridor scheduled from Saturday 20 November to Friday 26 November, while buses replace trains on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines.

During this time, works in the rail corridor will include:

  • structural work to prepare for the new road underpass and rail bridge
  • installing underground services and drainage
  • constructing a rail access track.

We're also gearing up for major works in January and February 2022, when a temporary closure of the Pakenham line and Clyde Road will be required. We'll provide more information closer to the time about what to expect.

When Clyde Road reopens, the level crossing will be gone for good.
