The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), with assistance from the NSW Rural Fire Service, will be conducting a hazard reduction burn in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park starting Thursday 3 September, and concluding Sunday 6 September, subject to suitable weather conditions.
The 230-hectares burn at Bobbin Head East will be bound by the Sphinx Trail to the south, the Bobbin Head Trail to the west, and Cowan Creek to the north and east. The aim of the burn is to reduce the chance of bushfire impacts to the park, neighbours and nearby communities.
All tracks and trails within the burn area will be closed for the duration of the burn, including Bobbin Head Trail, Jacombs Trail, Sphinx Trail and Track, Memorial Rd, Warrimoo Track, Bibbenluke Trail, Booralie Trail, Duffys Wharf Trail, Slades Trail, Darri Track, Murrua Trail and Gibberagong Track. Tracks will be reopened once they have been assessed as safe.
Motorists are reminded to drive to conditions and are advised to take care if visibility is reduced by smoke.
The NPWS Bobbin Head visitor precinct will remain open, including Bobbin Head Visitor Centre and Bobbin Inn Cafe, Empire Marina, and the surrounding visitor facilities.
Smoke may affect the area and people with asthma or other respiratory problems are advised to keep clear of the area or stay indoors, close windows and doors, and follow their health plan.
This burn is one of many hazard reduction operations undertaken by NPWS across NSW each year, many with assistance from the Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW.
These hazard reduction burns are essential to reduce bushfire fuel loads to help protect the parks, their natural and cultural values, neighbours and communities from summer bushfires.
