Controlled Burns Set for Deua and Nadgigomar Reserves

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting a 900-hectare hazard reduction burn in Nadgigomar Nature Reserve, north east of Braidwood on 9 April 2026. A further burn in the northern section of Nadgigomar Nature Reserve near Lower Boro is planned for 11 April.

NPWS is also planning an approximately 1,500-hectare hazard reduction burn in Deua National Park on 12 April, weather permitting. Little Sugarloaf Road will be closed for the duration of the burn until declared safe.

The hazard reduction burns aim to treat areas to protect local communities.

The planned burns will help to improve protection for built infrastructure from the adverse impact of bushfire, as well as to manage fire regimes to maintain and enhance biodiversity.

For their safety, the public should not enter the area while the operation is underway. Roads and trails will be reopened once the area is assessed as safe. Visitors must check NPWS Alerts for up-to-date information on closures

Smoke may be visible to visitors in other areas of the national park and from surrounding areas, including Moruya, Braidwood, Lower Boro, Nerriga and surrounding districts.
