Copper theft in Melbourne's northwest

Transit Divisional Response Unit officers have charged a 37-year-old man following the alleged theft of copper in Melbourne's northwest.

It is alleged approximately 1.5km of cabling was stolen and damaged near railway stations at Sunshine, Ginifer and St Albans in June and July.

Police arrested the offender near St Albans railway station just before 1pm on Tuesday 26 July.

The St Albans man has been charged with four counts of theft, three counts of criminal damage, going equipped and commit indictable offence whilst on bail.

He was bailed to appear at the Sunshine Magistrates' Court on 18 August.
