A man has been arrested following the theft of copper cable from Seaford Heights.
Just after midnight on Tuesday 11 August, approximately 2.4 kilometres of copper cable was allegedly stolen from a telecommunications service pit at Seaford Heights. Extensive damage was also caused during the removal of the cable.
Following investigations, Southern District police located a quantity of the stolen copper cable at a nearby recycling business.
Police subsequently attended a home at Christie Downs, where they arrested a suspect at 12.40pm the same day. Officers searched the address and allegedly uncovered remnants of the stolen copper cable, along with an industrial wire-stripping machine. Cash believed to be the proceeds of crime was also located and seized.
A 40-year-old Christie Downs man was charged with theft, providing false details to a second-hand dealer and breach of bail. He was refused bail and will appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court later today, Wednesday 12 August.
