An investigation is underway after a pedestrian was hit by a police vehicle in Sydney's North Shore today.
About 7.20pm on Monday 1 June 2026, police were responding to a fire at a park near Christie Street, St Leonards.
When a marked police vehicle from North Shore Police Area Command arrived at Pacific Highway, near Christie Street, a child was struck by the police vehicle.
The pedestrian – a 9-year-old boy – was immediately treated by police officers before NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived. The boy was later taken to the Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, in a stable condition.
The driver of a marked police vehicle – a male senior constable – was subjected to a roadside breath test which returned a negative result.
A crime scene was established and police have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
