Council Welcomes Successful Motion on Fairer Electricity Supply Charges

Narrandera Shire Council is pleased to announce that a motion put forward by Cr Neville Kschenka, Mayor OAM, at the 2025 Local Government NSW Conference has been successfully passed.

Mayor Kschenka presented the motion on behalf of Narrandera Shire Council, calling for greater fairness in the daily electricity supply charges faced by rural communities. The motion requests that Local Government NSW advocate to the NSW Government for Essential Energy to align rural supply charges with those applied to city and coastal consumers.

Mayor Kschenka said the outcome is an important step in addressing long-standing cost inequities faced by regional households and businesses.

"Rural residents should not be paying disproportionately higher supply charges for an essential service," he said.

"This motion aims to ensure fairness for our communities and supports ongoing advocacy for a more balanced and equitable pricing structure across NSW."

Council will continue to work with Local Government NSW and other regional councils to advance this important issue.
