Council assist to host Bowls NSW Events

Council will provide financial assistance to South Tamworth Bowling Club to respectively host the Men's and Women's Bowls NSW events in July and October of 2019.

Based on the recommendation put forward at this evening's Council Meeting, Council have committed to providing a one-off amount of $6,000 from the General Fund to assist South Tamworth Bowling Club with the costs associated with hosting these events.

The hosting fee for the Championship of Clubs Championships is $12,500 per year for two years. The event will see 48 players plus officials and supporters come to Tamworth for six days of competition. The hosting fee for the State Pennant Finals is $5,500 per year for two years with 120 players plus officials and supporters to compete over four days.

Mr. Barry Harley, Manager of Events at Tamworth Regional Council said: "We are always looking for new ways and reasons to bring people to our community and securing external events to be held in our region, such as these, is a great way to do it.

"We have amazing facilities across so many different fields, so it seems only fitting that we continue to seek and support local businesses to help secure these opportunities".

The estimated economic benefit to the Tamworth region for hosting the Bowls NSW events will be between $88,000 and $179,000.

"Like any of these kinds of events, it provides a reason for people to come to Tamworth when they otherwise might not. It's our job to provide them with a great experience so they have a reason to come back.

It's a great opportunity for our region and local businesses and we're excited to be able to support South Tamworth Bowling Club in making it happen" added Mr. Harley.

Some of the costs and services associated with hosting Bowls NSW events include providing the rinks, immaculate standards of greens and lighting, comfort for spectators, club house hosting capacity, availability of facilities and amenities, catering and the ability to live stream the competitions.
