Kiama Council has endorsed a grant application to support the upgrade of sporting facilities at Gerry Emery Reserve in Gerringong, reaffirming its commitment to strategic asset management and community wellbeing.

The proposed works aim to finalise the completion of the clubhouse building at the Reserve, ensuring the facility meets the needs of local sporting groups and aligns with Council's long-term asset planning and financial sustainability goals.

Mayor Cameron McDonald said the decision reflects Council's focus on transparency, efficiency, and collaboration.

"This project is a great example of how we can work with community groups and funding bodies to deliver high-quality infrastructure that benefits our residents," Mayor McDonald said. "By managing the project in-house, we ensure compliance, reduce risk, and maintain strong oversight."

"We thank our Federal Member for Gilmore Fiona Phillips in assisting to facilitate this application for an Australian Government grant to complete the clubhouse at this popular local sports facility."

While the majority of the project costs will be covered by external grant funding, Council will recover any additional project management costs through its Developer Contributions Reserve. This approach ensures no unplanned financial burden on Council's budget.

The grant application has been developed in partnership with Gerringong District All Sports, with support from Council's Grants Officer.

Council will continue to work closely with local sporting groups to ensure the upgraded clubhouse reflects community needs and delivers long-term value for Gerringong residents.

If the grant application is successful and official confirmation is received from the Australian Government, Council can then begin the tender processes for the work on Gerry Emery Clubhouse – tenders will likely go out in 2026.
