The City of Kingston has extended the contract of Chief Executive Officer Peter Bean for a further four years with an additional one-year option, reaffirming Council's confidence in his leadership and vision for the organisation.
Mayor Georgina Oxley said Mr Bean had made a significant contribution to Kingston since commencing as CEO in 2021 and had earned the respect of Council, staff and the wider community.
"Peter has been an outstanding CEO for Kingston. He brings a calm, steady head, a wealth of experience and a genuine commitment to our community," Cr Oxley said.
"The past few years have brought both significant achievements and real challenges. Throughout that time, Peter has provided strong leadership and sound advice, helping Council navigate increasing financial pressures while keeping our focus firmly on the community.
"Under Peter's leadership, Kingston has remained focused on listening to our residents, delivering the services and infrastructure they rely on, finding smarter and more efficient ways to work, and planning for our city's future. Council is delighted to extend Peter's contract, and I'm personally looking forward to continuing to work closely with him as we build on the great progress that has been made."
Mr Bean said he was honoured to continue leading the organisation and serving the Kingston community.
"I am very proud to continue as CEO and to keep working alongside Council to deliver for our community," Mr Bean said.
"Kingston is a fantastic place with a very bright future, and I am excited about the opportunities ahead as we continue to invest in the services, facilities and initiatives that matter most to our residents.
"I would like to thank the mayor and councillors for their confidence and support. Councils are at their best when there is robust discussion and a genuine focus on achieving the best outcomes for the community. Our councillors are deeply committed to serving the residents and shaping a positive future for our city. I look forward to continuing to work with them, our staff and the community to deliver on that vision.
"I am incredibly fortunate to lead such a dedicated and talented team. The achievements of recent years have only been possible because of the passion, professionalism and commitment of Kingston's staff, who work every day to make a positive difference in our community.
"I look forward to continuing to work with Council, our staff and the community to build on our successes and ensure Kingston remains a great place to live, work and visit."
Council endorsed the contract extension at its meeting on Monday night.
