Council begins search for new CEO

The search is on for the next leader for the largest local government authority in Northern Australia.

Townsville City Council has engaged Queensland-based recruitment company u&u to conduct the search for its new chief executive officer (CEO).

Mayor Jenny Hill said the organisation's new leader would help the Council deliver its corporate plan and work with staff to meet the current and future needs of Townsville.

"Our next CEO will bring strategic leadership, interpersonal capabilities and relationships management to reflect the distinct leadership role that Townsville has as the capital of North Queensland," Cr Hill said.

"The successful applicant will lead a team of more than 1700 employees serving and balancing the needs of residents, commercial entities and visitors while managing around $5.46 billion of community assets and an annual budget of $648.8 million on behalf of the Townsville community.

"Our next CEO must be an outstanding administrator and manager of resources, able to build a positive outcome-focused organisational culture, and be someone who is willing and capable of engaging effectively with elected members, our community and a range of other stakeholders.

"This is about finding the best person for the city's current and future needs."

Prospective applicants must demonstrate the full suite of experience, capabilities and qualifications normally associated with a CEO position, together with an impeccable and proven track record of success and achievement in a comparable role.

Cr Hill said Council was interested in receiving applications from professionals from both the public and private sectors.
