Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has secured a strategically important parcel of escarpment land, completing a long identified missing link between Jubilee Park and Prince Henry Drive Bushland Park.
TRC Parks and Recreation Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Tim McMahon said the acquisition brings a key section of the escarpment into public ownership, strengthening Council's ability to manage bushfire risk and enhance long-term recreational planning for the community.
"This land purchase secures a critical connection between Jubilee Park and Prince Henry Drive Bushland Park," Cr McMahon said.
"Importantly, it brings a major fire trail and associated land management infrastructure into public ownership, improving Council's capacity to undertake coordinated, effective bushfire mitigation along the escarpment."
Cr McMahon said the acquisition also supports Council's broader planning for future recreational opportunities.
"In the longer term, this site provides the ability to explore expanded recreation uses, including improved connectivity for the Region's growing mountain bike network," he said.
"This builds on the planned delivery of trails within the Jubilee Park area and supports greater flexibility in how Council manages and activates the escarpment land for community benefit."
The purchase was funded through Council's Park and Bushland Levy Reserve.
