Rockhampton Regional Council is looking for a number of new trainees and apprentices to start with the organisation in 2022.

The 2022 Intake opened last week, and Council Acting CEO, Ross Cheesman, is encouraging all who are looking to expand their skills or make a career change to apply.

"In the current intake, we have 21 positions on offer across a wide range of fields," Mr Cheesman said.

"At Council, we are incredibly proud of our Apprentice and Trainee Program and the great opportunities it provides each and every year," Mr Cheesman said.

"The program provides a nationally recognised qualification, with access to quality mentoring throughout the entire apprenticeship or traineeship.

"Over the past three years alone, Council has had the privilege of upskilling 80 people through the program.

"What makes this even more special is that these qualifications can often lead to permanent roles with Council. A number of employees currently on our workforce started off as apprentices or trainees."

One employee who can attest to the program and its opportunities is full time carpenter, Matthew Stock, who commenced his time with Council as an Apprentice Carpenter.

"I completed my apprenticeship in Carpentry with Council at the start of the year and within a couple of weeks of that, a position opened up," Mr Stock said.

"It was amazing timing. I applied for the position and was lucky enough to get an interview and even luckier to land the job.

"It's not often you get the chance to get to gain the skills and get offered a full time employment from the same organisation."

The 2022 Intake includes the following positions:

  • 2 x Gardener Trainee
  • 15 x Business Administration Trainee
  • 1 x Civil Construction Trainee
  • 1 x Apprentice Carpenter
  • 1 x Warehouse Trainee
  • 1 x Apprentice Plumber

Applications close at midnight on Monday 13 September.
