Port Stephens Council has been awarded one-million-dollars to help deliver a much-needed major upgrade for the Ferodale Road and Peppertree Road intersection in Medowie.
Council is contributing a further $597,000 from local infrastructure contributions, which includes proceeds from development sales.
This funding commitment marks as an important first step in the realisation of the Medowie Town Centre Masterplan, recently endorsed by Council at its May 2026 meeting. Developed in partnership with the community, the Masterplan sets the long-term vision for this fast-growing town, which is projected to grow to 20,000 by 2041.
The Ferodale and Peppertree Road intersection is a key gateway to the local shopping precinct and pedestrian network, with a high volume of daily use.
The much-needed upgrade will create a safer, more connected town centre, better equipped to meet the needs of the growing community. It will improve traffic flow and movement in the area and create a safer pedestrian and cycling environment.
The funding, from the NSW Government's Faster Assessments Incentive Program, is a direct reward for our fast and efficient development assessment performance and allows us to act on community infrastructure priorities.
Council's Development Assessment team has also been recognised as a top performer by the NSW Local Government Association for achieving an average assessment time of 49 days for 2025/26 - a 15% improvement on the previous year's figures.
The intersection upgrade project is now in the early stages of design and further information will be shared with the community in the coming months.
