Council keeps boats moving

New pink slip system to show when an abandoned boat trailer is put on notice.

"Dumped boat trailers are an eyesore. They create congestion in our streets, are a huge parking problem and make our area less beautiful," said City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas.

"The City of Canada Bay is home to some of the best waterways in the world and we want people to enjoy them - but with boat ownership comes responsibility."

According to state legislation, it is an offence for any boat trailers parked in the City of Canada Bay to not move at least every 28 days, at least as far as the intersection of another street. The new pink sticker will enable residents to see exactly when the timeframes to move their boat trailer has begun.

At the end of the 28 days, Council is then legally required to give the boat trailer owner a final 15 days' notice (blue sticker) to move their boat before impounding occurs.

"We're committed to doing what regulations allow to address this issue and I can't impress enough on our community to follow the rules and keep their boats moving."

The latest figures from NSW Maritime show 21,367 boat licences were issued from May to December 2020, an incredible 52 per cent increase compared to the same time the year before.
