Council Opens 2026 Australia Day Awards Nominations

Georges River Council is calling on the community to recognise its local heroes, with the 2026 Australia Day Awards nominations now open.

Presented annually, the Australia Day Awards recognise and honour individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the community. This presents an opportunity to celebrate the exemplary community members who make Georges River a great place to live and work.

Nominations are open in the following categories:

  • Young Citizen of the Year.

  • Volunteer of the Year.

  • Citizen of the Year.

  • Localability Citizen of the Year.

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, "The Australia Day Awards are a chance to highlight the everyday champions in our community – those who give their time, energy and passion to help others and make a difference.

"I encourage members of our community to submit a nomination if they know someone who inspires them."

Nominees must be Australian citizens and reside with the Georges River Local Government Area. Nominations close on Friday 31 October 2025 at 4.00pm. All nominees will receive a formal letter acknowledging their nomination, with winners to be announced at the official Australia Day Awards ceremony on Monday 26 January 2026.
