The finishing touches are being put on footpath upgrades on Sturt Street – which supported 20 local jobs.
The CBD revitalisation project includes footpaths on both sides of Sturt St between Blackwood St and Stanley St – completed by BMD Constructions.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said Council is committed to delivering projects that improve the CBD .
"Council is continuing to invest in infrastructure projects across the city that create jobs for locals and help boost our economy," Cr Hill said.
"These footpath upgrades are important in improving the look of the streetscape and ensuring pedestrians can move through the city safely."
Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Mark Molachino said Sturt Street was one of the last remaining sections of footpath in the CBD that needed upgrading.
"Council has invested significantly in upgrading its infrastructure in the city centre, from the completion of the CBD Utilities Upgrade and greening the city through the Street Trees project to renewing footpaths such as Flinders Street West and now Sturt Street," Cr Molachino said.
"These footpath upgrades are helping to revitalise this area of the CBD that will see an increase of foot traffic once the North Queensland Stadium is completed next March."
Local Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney thanked local business for their patience while the project was being completed.
"CBD traders around Sturt Street have welcomed these upgrades and are pleased to see the footpaths look much better," Cr Greaney said.
"Local businesses asked for these upgrades and Council has listened and delivered and the end result looks great."
