Council proposes restructure to deliver on changing community expectations

Council's Chief Executive Officer, Anthony Basford, today announced proposed changes to the organisation's structure.

The changes primarily involve reducing the executive team from four to three positions, and a refocus and realignment of departments and senior manager roles.

The intention is to create an organisation that is responsive, agile and better able to deliver on Council's commitments, shifting external influences and the community's evolving expectations.

"Council has many commitments to deliver on and our community is demanding we do better in a number of areas," Mr Basford said.

"The proposed realignment puts greater emphasis on areas like customer engagement, strategic planning for growth and development, and boosting the local economy.

"It will make the design and delivery of our large capital works program more efficient and bring together our commercial enterprises for optimal operation," he said.

Council is currently discussing the proposed changes with staff and their representatives and is committed to working closely with them to manage the proposed change.

"We have a skilled and committed team here at Council – this change is about realigning skills and focus to deliver the best outcomes for the community," Mr Basford said.

"I appreciate that this process may be unsettling for some staff, but I am confident it will deliver greater long-term benefits for the East Gippsland community," he said.

Over the next few weeks Council will be seeking feedback from staff on the proposed new structure before making any decision on the changes.

Once finalised, the new organisational structure will be formally released to the community.
