Council Recognition For Agritourism Work

MidCoast Council

MidCoast Council has been recognised for the work in assisting primary producers diversify their operations.

Council's Agritourism Product Development and Mentoring program helped build the skills, knowledge and confidence of some of the region's primary producers to allow them to take the leap into agritourism providing them with another income stream.

Executive Manager of Sustainable Development, Rachel Pleasant said it was this program that earned Council's Economic Development team a Highly Commended Excellence award at the Local Government Professionals awards recently.

"Despite strong interest to expand their operations many producers in the MidCoast lacked the specialised knowledge which limited their ability to aspire, grow, adapt and future proof their operations," she explained.

"Agritourism encourages visitors to take part in more activities, creating wider economic benefits for the region. By connecting primary producers with the visitor economy, MidCoast Council helped local agritourism businesses diversify and build resilience during economic, climate and disaster disruptions.

"Working with Sparrowly Group we provided one-on-one tailored support including site visits, financial modelling, experience design, approvals guidance and digital assistance.

"To receive a Highly commended in the prestigious awards is another sign we are on the right track and providing assistance where it matters."
