Council staff hit streets for Clean Up Liverpool Day

Liverpool City Council staff stepped away from their usual jobs on Wednesday and took to the streets for Clean Up Liverpool Day.

About 400 Council staff ventured out on a cold, rainy day to pick up rubbish at 13 sites, mainly parks and bush reserves. Councillors and federal Werriwa MP Anne Stanley also joined in the clean-up effort.

Nearly three tonnes of rubbish was collected from around the LGA, ranging from cigarette butts to discarded furniture.

"Council staff are passionate about Liverpool and always looking at new ways to make it a better place to live," said Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller.

"Our staff aren't just here to serve the community – they are also very much part of the community. And like everyone else in the community, they care about what sort of environment they live and work in.

"Clean Up Liverpool Day is about our staff getting out and showing how much they care about their community.

"We know our staff are our greatest asset and the success of Clean Up Liverpool Day is really a tribute to their dedication and enthusiasm for making Liverpool even better."
