Council thanks dedicated community members

Hawkesbury City Council proudly hosted a Community Appreciation Party at Hawkesbury Race Club on Thursday, 17 October 2019.

The Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Barry Calvert addressed the 200 guests and talked about the importance of community volunteers and organisations in shaping a community and expressed his gratitude to every volunteer in the Hawkesbury.

“These dedicated community members and organisations are enriching the Hawkesbury community and its residents,” Mayor Calvert said.

“Council knows it is important that your achievements and contributions are fully recognised.”

Citizen of the Year, Ross Matheson, also gave a speech thanking all volunteers, including the many thousands of volunteers who assist the Hawkesbury District Agricultural Association year in and year out.

The enthusiastic Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Community Bushcare Officer Martin Gauci, who interviewed a few volunteers about their work and life in the Hawkesbury in a very entertaining manner.

Guests were treated to live entertainment, a roaming magician, a lolly bar and succulent plant gifts as a token of thanks as part of the Community Appreciation Party.

The community members and volunteers in attendance represented a broad spectrum of the Hawkesbury community including non-profit community organisations and members of the services sector; business, commercial, educational, arts, historical and cultural sectors; representatives of the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service; community organisations, committees and Gallery, Museum and Library volunteers, Hawkesbury Companion Animal Shelter, Bushcare, Landcare and the Hawkesbury Community Nursery.
