Moira Shire Council has welcomed the commencement of vital safety upgrades at the intersection of the Goulburn Valley Highway and Labuan Road/Stokes Road in Yarroweyah.

The intersection has been the site of multiple serious and fatal accidents in recent years, prompting Council to advocate strongly for improvements.

The upcoming works will address key safety concerns, including removing the rail embankment crest and installing a splitter island, new kerbing and rumble strips on Labuan Rd, as well as installing electronic warning signs and sealing the Stokes Road leg of the intersection.

Works will begin from Monday 28 April, and will take approximately three months to complete, weather permitting.

Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM expressed strong support for the project.

"This intersection has long been a concern for our community, and Council has been persistent in advocating for these much-needed safety improvements," Dr Emonson said.

"We are pleased to see our efforts come to fruition, and we thank the Australian Government for funding this critical project through the Black Spot Program and to Transport Victoria for delivering the works at the intersection."

Lane closures and changed speed limits will be in place at times during the works. Motorists are urged to allow additional time and follow all traffic signage on site.
