Councils act where Andrews fails to stop hoon drivers

Liberal Party Victoria

At least two Victorian councils are seeking to introduce local anti-hoon driving laws. This demonstrates the failure of the Andrews Labor Government to address worsening dangerous driving across the state.

Greater Dandenong and Mornington Peninsula Shire are actively discussing local laws which would allow for on-the-spot fines for those caught attending, organising or encouraging hoon events.

These examples of local government taking matters into their own hands follows recent hoon events inSt Kilda and Dandenong over recent months.

Daniel Andrews' failure to tackle hoon driving has left police scrambling to act and local governments going it alone. The Premier is putting the safety of local communities at risk.

As stated by Shadow Minister for Police & Community Safety, David Southwick:

"The Andrews Labor Government has failed to make any impact on the growing hoon culture across our suburbs.

"We can't have a situation where hoon laws are different depending on a postcode. It is the responsibility of the Andrews Labor Government to fix this mess.

"Our suburban streets should be a safe place to live and raise a family, but too often under Andrews' weak laws, they're being used as racetracks by hoons."
