Counter terrorism emergency management exercise, TAS

Tasmania Police and the Australian Defence Force will soon be conducting counter-terrorism training exercises in the Hobart area and waterfront, Tasmania Police say.

To protect tactics and techniques, we can’t tell you exactly where or when the training will be conducted but it involves a simulated terrorist scenario.  Those nearby may see increased use of helicopters, emergency services vehicles police and soldiers carrying weapons and tactical equipment during the conduct of the exercise.

Some of the training involves low flying helicopters, the use of blank ammunition and other pyrotechnics. We thank you for your patience and apologise for the unavoidable noise, however this style of training is essential to ensure that Australia’s security services have the highest level of capability in the event of a terrorist incident.

Please be assured this is a training exercise only and there is no threat or danger to the public.

If you are concerned about anything you see or hear, please call our Police non-emergency line on 131 444. In an emergency call 000.
