Counterfeit Currency, Russell Island

Officers from Russell Island Station, and Cleveland and Bayside Criminal Investigation Branches (CIB) have charged a 22-year-old Russell Island man after he allegedly used counterfeit cash to purchase items on 22 November.

Around 3.30pm, Russell Island police were patrolling a High Street shopping centre when a shop owner approached them, and claimed the man had attempted to use counterfeit currency to purchase goods.

It will be alleged when police located the man, he was in possession of several counterfeit $50 notes, and a quantity of gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB).

He was charged with five counts of uttering counterfeit money, three counts of fraud - dishonestly obtains property from another, and one count each of possessing counterfeit money and possessing dangerous drugs.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Cleveland Magistrates Court today, 24 November.
