Courts response to floods in New South Wales and South East Queensland

The Family Court of Australia and Federal Circuit Court of Australia are aware of the significant impacts of heavy rainfall and flooding in New South Wales and South East Queensland.

The Courts are also aware that this could affect litigants and practitioners who have a matter before the Courts.

We express our deep concern to those that are being affected, and want to assure parties and practitioners that if they are directly affected by these events, the Courts will assist wherever possible to cooperate in adjourning hearings or extending time periods for compliance with orders where considered appropriate by the relevant judicial officer. This includes if necessary modifying face-to-face hearings to be conducted electronically to assist the parties.
