Covert filming charges, Railway Estate

Detectives from Townsville Child Protection Investigation Unit have charged a man following an investigation into the alleged covert filming of house guests in Railway Estate.

Police will allege, that between 2020 and 2023, the man advertised his house on a couch-surfing website and covertly filmed house guests in situations where they otherwise should have been afforded privacy.

The 47-year-old Railway Estate man was charged with 124 counts of recording in breach of privacy on September 27. His bail was refused, and he is due to re-appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on October 5.

Some victims have been identified, however police are appealing to anyone who used a couch-surfing website to stay at the house on Twelfth Avenue, Railway Estate, to contact them.
