Crash causes blackout in Towradgi

Police are investigating a crash in the Wollongong area which resulted in a local power outage, NSW Police say.

About 11am today, a 20-yeaar-old man was driving a Nissan Patrol south on Pioneer Road, Towradgi, when it left the road and struck a power pole on the opposite side of the road.

The driver was trapped in the vehicle for a short time before being freed by rescue services.

He was taken to Wollongong Hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.

As a result of the crash, about 1600 residents and local businesses were left without power for about two and a half hours.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command are investigating the crash.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
