Creating 50 Local Jobs: Stuart Highway and Tulagi Road Upgrades

The Territory Labor Government is investing in job creating infrastructure with upgrades to the Stuart Highway and Tulagi Road Intersection recently awarded.

Local company, Ostojic Group won the $5.5 million tender which is expected to support more than 50 local jobs.

Work will include upgrading the Stuart Highway and Tulagi Road Intersection, new left and right turning lanes on the Stuart Highway, and upgrading and widening the Pierssene Road and Tulagi Road intersection. In addition to these works, the Tulagi Road corridor and stormwater drainage will be upgraded to improve local flood immunity as part of the Flood Mitigation works.

The Territory Labor Government is encouraging private investment with the project part of a funding agreement between the Northern Territory Government, City of Palmerston and Bunnings.

These upgrades will cater for increased traffic, improve safety and facilitate future planning in the area for existing and new businesses, with work on the project expected to commence early November 2018 and be completed by mid-2019.

As stated by the Acting Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics, Nicole Manison:

Creating jobs and attracting more people to live in the NT is the Territory Labor Governments top priority and this project will support more than 50 local jobs during construction and allow for future planning of the area.

The Territory Labor Government continues to support local jobs and investment opportunities. We are providing certainty that business and industry require to plan for future growth.

These works will ensure that our urban communities are safe in times of flooding and facilitate future planning in the area for existing and new businesses.

the City of Palmerston Mayor, Athina Pascoe-Bell:

Projects like this development contribute greatly to our local economy by providing employment and opportunities for local residents, the construction industry and businesses.

With Palmerston being the fastest growing city in the Territory, its fantastic to see the Northern Territory Government focusing on this growth and investing in opportunities which create local jobs.

Council is appreciative of the focus being placed on Palmerstons future. With investments made by Council and the Northern Territory Government, it is easy to see why developers are taking a keen interest in Palmerston.
