Creating Jobs and Supporting Communities - Tennant Creek Speedway Contract Awarded

Local Territory company AsBuild (NT) Pty Ltd, has been awarded the contract to replace the track safety fence at Tennant Creek Speedway.

The Territory Government has committed $1.65 million to upgrade the sporting facility with a much-needed new track safety fence.

It is estimated this project will support eight jobs during construction.

Work is scheduled to commence Mid-July with completion expected late-2019.

As stated by Minister for Tourism, Sport and Culture, Lauren Moss:

We know how much motor sport means to competitors and spectators in the NT, which is why we are investing over $13 million into motor sport infrastructure across the Territory, an investment that will allow motor sports to continue to grow and flourish.

The Territory Government has invested $1.65 million toward these works, and were thrilled to see the contract go to a local Territory business.

As stated by local Member for Barkly, Gerry McCarthy:

I first attended a Tennant Creek Speedway meeting in 1980 and soon came to realise it was the best oval dirt track in the Northern Territory.

The new safety fence accredits the Speedway in terms of national track safety standards enabling the long exposition of dirt track motor sports to continue in Tennant Creek for the locals and visiting events.

The $1.65 million Tennant Creek Speedway upgrade supports local jobs and businesses in addition to a local volunteer motor sports association.
