From August 27 to September 30, players and staff from Cricket Victoria, the Melbourne Stars, and the Melbourne Renegades will visit more than 90 schools, 30 local clubs and 10 community events across regional and metropolitan Victoria as part of Play Cricket Month.
The month-long initiative will feature interactive clinics, community activations, and play-led coaching sessions delivered by State and Big Bash players; all aimed at inspiring the next generation and driving club and program registrations for the summer ahead.
Play Cricket Month aligns with the release of the 2024-25 Community Cricket Census, which revealed strong growth in participation nationwide – particularly in junior programs, women and girls' cricket, and multicultural engagement.
In Victoria, 45,936 children aged 5-12 signed up to play in the 2024-25 season, contributing to a total of 49,720 junior registrations while Woolworths Cricket Blast recorded a 4% rise in participants. This highlights cricket's growing appeal to young players and strengthens the long-term sustainability of the game.
A key result for one of Cricket Victoria's strategic pillars, women and girls' participation grew by 8%, reaching 20,598 players statewide. As one of Victoria's fastest-growing sports for women, this reinforces the game's inclusivity and accessibility.
Cricket Victoria Head of Participation Owen Hulett said:
"Our growth reflects a commitment to inclusivity, ensuring more Victorians than ever can see themselves participating in cricket.
"By opening doors for more juniors, more women & girls and more multicultural players, we're ensuring the future of Victorian cricket is stronger."
