Cricket has emerged as the leading sport in the Victorian Government's Sporting Club Grants Program, with 129 cricket clubs across the state successfully securing funding to support grassroots participation and development.
The outstanding result saw cricket rank first among all sports for successful grant recipients, well ahead of Australian Rules Football, which recorded 70 recipients.
The funding represents a significant boost for community cricket across Victoria, helping clubs and associations invest in equipment, strengthen volunteer programs, improve accessibility and create more opportunities for people to participate in the game.
The Victorian Government's Sporting Club Grants Program provides financial assistance to grassroots sporting organisations, supporting their ongoing development and helping make community sport more accessible, inclusive and sustainable.
Successful applicants can access funding across five key categories:
- On-field Uniforms or Equipment: Up to $1,000 to purchase playing uniforms, participation equipment, safety supplies and first-aid equipment.
- Volunteers and Officials: Up to $5,000 to develop the skills and knowledge of volunteers, coaches and officials, while supporting volunteer retention.
- Access and Engagement: Up to $5,000 to deliver a series of sporting sessions for adults, or up to $2,500 for a single-session event for children and young people, encouraging inclusive participation.
- Travel: Up to $750 to assist athletes with travel expenses associated with representative competitions, selection trials and training camps.
- Governance and Engagement: Up to $1,500 to strengthen club governance practices and support long-term sustainability.
The strong representation of cricket clubs and associations among successful recipients highlights the commitment of Victoria's cricket community to creating welcoming, accessible and sustainable environments for participants of all ages and abilities.
It also reflects the proactive efforts of clubs, volunteers and administrators in identifying opportunities to secure valuable funding and strengthen their local cricket programs.
Cricket Victoria congratulates all 129 successful cricket recipients and acknowledges the Victorian Government for its continued investment in grassroots sport.
Cricket Victoria remains committed to supporting clubs and associations in accessing funding opportunities that help grow participation, develop volunteers and ensure cricket continues to thrive in communities across the state.
