Criminal Groups Update: Granville Shooting Briefing

Commander of State Crime Command's Criminal Groups Squad, Detective Superintendent Jason Box, will address the media after two men were shot in Granville yesterday.

About 5.10pm (Sunday 25 May 2025), emergency services were called to Woodville Road, Granville, following reports of a public place shooting.

Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command arrived and located a utility with two men inside suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Two other men in the vehicle were uninjured.

Initial inquiries indicate as the Toyota Hilux turned onto Woodville Road, the occupants of a Mercedes fired several rounds at it, hitting the driver and front seat passenger.

The injured men – aged 32 and 25 – were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to hospital. The older man has since undergone surgery and remains in a critical condition, while the younger man is stable.

A short time later police were called to Sherwood Street, Merrylands West, following reports of a car fire. Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze; however, the Mercedes was destroyed.

Crime scenes were established at both locations with detectives from State Crime Command's Criminal Groups, Raptor and Homicide Squads providing immediate assistance.

During a search of the Toyota utility at Granville, a firearm was located and seized.

The two uninjured passengers – aged 28 and 26 – were arrested and taken to Granville Police Station.

They were both charged with possess unauthorised pistol and acquire etc pistol-subject to firearms prohibition order and have been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Monday 26 May 2025).

Detectives from Criminal Groups Squad have commenced an investigation into the shooting under Strike Force Arrino.
