Critical incident in Orange

A critical incident investigation has been launched following a fatal crash in the state’s central west last night, NSW Police say.

Just after 11pm today, officers from Canobolas Local Area Command were conducting patrols when they observed a vehicle and turned around to follow it.

A short time later, police located the vehicle crashed off the roadway on Ophir Road, Orange.

A woman was located deceased inside the vehicle in a rear passenger seat. She is yet to be formally identified.

A male passenger was also located at the scene uninjured.

The driver and a third passenger fled the scene.

A critical incident team from Western Region will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

That investigation will be overseen by the Professional Standards Command and all information will be provided to the Coroner.

No further details are available at this time; however, police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
