Critical incident investigation after man dies - Leichhardt

A critical incident investigation is underway after a man died following a police operation in Leichhardt this morning.

About 3.40am (Wednesday 29 June 2022), emergency services were called to a unit on Carlisle Street, after concerns were raised for the welfare of the occupant.

A perimeter was established when the man refused to leave the premises.

A police operation commenced and specialist officers attended to assist, attempting to negotiate with the man.

Despite attempts to speak to him, he was located deceased inside the home about 7am.

A crime scene was established and a critical incident team from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident.

That investigation will be subject to an independent review.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
