Critical incident investigation launched into death of man in hospital at Randwick

A critical incident investigation has been launched following the death of a patient in a Sydney hospital overnight.

Police were called to the hospital in Randwick about 6.30pm (Monday 19 August 2019) due to concerns about the behaviour of a patient.

On arrival, officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command found hospital security and paramedics restraining a 35-year-old man while hospital staff attempted to treat him.

After the man was handcuffed and placed on a stretcher, he lost consciousness and was unable to be revived.

A Critical Incident Investigation Team will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation will be subject to an independent review.

All information will be provided for the information of the Coroner.
