Critical incident investigators appeal to identify witnesses to Central Railway Station shooting, NSW

Detectives leading the critical incident investigation into a police shooting in Sydney CBD last month have released CCTV images to identify witnesses who have not yet spoken to police, NSW Police say.

Police were called to Eddy Avenue, Haymarket, just before 6.45pm on Wednesday 26 July 2017, following reports of a man armed with a knife near the entrance to Central Railway Station.

Officers arrived soon after. A 30-year-old man was shot and died at the scene.

A critical incident team from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad is investigating all circumstances surrounding the incident under Strike Force Derowrie.

As part of their on-going investigation, strike force detectives have released CCTV images of 10 people who may have witnessed the incident, but have not yet spoken to police.

The images depict five women and five men who are in the immediate area before and/or at the time of the shooting. The witnesses might simply have seen the incident or may have filmed the incident on mobile phones.

Strike force investigators are keen to identify and speak with each of these people as they believe they may have information or vision relevant to the investigation.

Anyone who knows someone depicted in the images is urged to request they make contact with investigators either by contacting Crime Stoppers.
