Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has recently repaired the iconic Crows Nest Senior Citizens Memorial Town Clock proving it is second to none in the Toowoomba Region.
Numerous local community members contacted TRC requesting the clock be repaired after noticing it had stopped ticking.
TRC's Property Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Trevor Manteufel said he was glad TRC was able to repair the damaged mechanisms within the clock knowing what it meant to the community.
"The Senior Citizens Memorial Town Clock is a monument which commemorates the loved ones community members have lost and celebrates the past and present senior citizens. It is also an attraction which visitors and community members often admire when they are in the main retail strip of the northern town," Cr Manteufel said.
The famous post style town square clock, located on the corner of Curnow and Charlotte Streets, has been a prominent Crows Nest symbol since it was donated by the Crows Nest Senior Citizens Group and installed by TRC over a decade ago.
The Crows Nest Senior Citizens Group originally ordered the iconic timepiece, worth between $20,000 and $25,000, from the United States in late 2014, which led to Council's decision to cover the cost of installation and ongoing maintenance costs at the Ordinary Meeting of Council in December of 2014.
"This clock will be a Crows Nest icon for generations to come and I'm glad Council can play a part in maintaining it. In my opinion, that is certainly no waste of time," Cr Manteufel said.
The Every time You… campaign aims to raise awareness of the myriad of ways residents interact with TRC services on a daily basis, sometimes without even knowing it.
