Crows Nest Gallery Showcases Heavy Metal Music Scene

A photographic exhibition capturing the adventures, life and colour of the heavy rock and metal music scene is on display at the Crows Nest Gallery.

Toowoomba photographer Makenzie Towson's exhibition, The Metal Focus, will be displayed from April 5 to 30, 2023.

Makenzie forges bonds with metalhead devotees and captures their love of the genre on her travels across the Region.

"Derived from classical roots, metal musicians have to be the best in their craft to perform in any level across the genre," Makenzie said.

"From outstanding poetry to complex melodies, the genre has it all. I compare being a heavy metal musician to having Olympic-level skill on your instrument.

"Any musician will agree that the moments on stage, while few and fleeting, are among the most rewarding.

"They are the moments we live for. Getting to every single one of them requires immeasurable tenacity."

Alexander Ford, a bassist with Diamond Construct, said Makenzie's work highlighted the darker side of touring, the mental strain and the dedication, resources and time needed to turn the dream to reality.

"Makenzie Towson has accurately encapsulated what it is to be tired, broke, stressed, and at the same time, happy," Alexander said.

The exhibition's Artist Talk is on Sunday, April 23 at 11am.

This is a free event and no bookings are required.
