Dangerous driver avoids disaster in Dandenong North

Police were stunned when they clocked a Holden Commodore allegedly travelling at more than 200km/h down the Monash Freeway in Dandenong North this morning, Victoria Police say.

Greater Dandenong Highway Patrol officers were conducting laser speed detection on the freeway between EastLink and Stud Road when they detected the vehicle travelling at 207km/h in a 100 zone about 1.10am.

The vehicle was eventually caught up to and intercepted by police on Heatherton Road.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 23-year-old Endeavour Hills man, was arrested and is expected to be charged on summons with a range of offences.

The car was immediately impounded for a period of 30 days at a cost of $1093.
